Dave Milligan Trio
Tours: The An Tobar Commissions: Aidan O'Rourke's An Tobar Band with The Dave Milligan Trio
Mon 19th Apr 2010 - Sat 15th May 2010
To celebrate their tenth anniversary, Tobermoray's innovative An Tobar arts centre commissioned pieces from jazz pianist Dave Milligan and fiddler Aidan O'Rourke. Following highly successful performances at An Tobar and Celtic Connections, the Dave Milligan Trio and O'Rouke's An Tobar ensemble, featuring harpist Catriona McKay and accordionist Martin Green, take the show on the road, bringing a little part of Mull to audiences across Scotland.
Milligan was commissioned to create pieces inspired by Tobermoray shops, then debut them in those very stores. The resulting suite combines the inventive playing of Mulligan, bassist Tom Lyne and drummer Tom Bancroft with found-sound recordings taken from the island. O'Rourke revisits his acclaimed 2008 album An Tobar with a distinguished ensemble featuring harpist Catriona McKay, accordionist Martin Green, saxophonist Phil Bancroft and percussionist Martin O'Neill. Inspired by the geography, music and people of Mull, O'Rourke's piece 'The Well' pays tribute to the late Martyn Bennet, whose studio was based at An Tobar.
In addition to performing their own pieces, Milligan and O'Rourke's ensembles will join forces to perform a new work they have written together, a further testament to the magic and inspiration Mull has to offer Scotland's artists.
