Le Vent du Nord
One of the best-loved Quebecois folk groups in the world, Le Vent Du Nord was formed in 2002 by Nicolas Boulerice (vocals, hurdy gurdy, piano, accordian) and Benoit Bourque (vocals, accordian, mandolin, bones and step dancing). The current lineup features Boulerice alongside Réjean Brunet (vocals, button accordian, bass guitar), Simon Beaudry (vocals, guitar, Irish bouzouki), and Olivier Demers (vocals, fiddle, foot-tapping). Performing their own material, as well as songs drawn from the Quebecois folk repertoire, Le Vent Du Nord create a joyous, energetic sound that is both modern and traditional, reflecting the strong Celtic influence - from both Ireland and Brittany – that runs through the music of their region. The group has won numerous awards, including a prestigious Juno Award for their debut album, Maudite Moisson in 2004, and Best Traditional album at the Canadian Folk Music Awards 2005 for Les amants du Saint-Laurent. Their most recent album is 2009's La part du feu.
