Buille
Formed in 2004 by Armagh born brothers Niall and Caoimhín Vallely, along with Paul Meehan and Brian Morrissey, Buille have won widespread acclaim for their contemporary approach to contemporary Irish folk music. Led by Niall's hugely inventive concertina playing and Caoimhín's breakneck fiddling, Buille write tunes in a traditional style, but are open to a wide range of instrumental colours and influences from jazz and classical music. Described by the Irish Times as "as fresh a breath that's blown through traditional (and roots) circles in a long, long time," their self-titled debut album established them as an original force, while the ambitious follow up, Buille II expanded their sound to incorporate guest musicians on cello, trumpet and uillean pipes.
