A dynamic new project fusing classical playing with the infectious rhythms of traditional Irish music. Led by Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin, joined by fellow Irish performers Sandra Joyce and Niall Keegan and the exciting Scottish Ensemble Quartet
Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin is best known as a performer who has developed a unique Irish piano style, as a composer who explores the sounds of traditional and classical music and as an academic in his position as Chair of Music at University of Limerick and founder of the Irish World Music Centre.
Joining Mícheál on this tour are respected fellow Irish musicians Sandra Joyce and Niall Keegan and a quartet from the Scottish Ensemble to create performances that are a stunning blend of traditional and classical music.
Sandra Joyce's first love is Irish traditional music and singing with the bodran as her main instrument. A colleague of Michael's at University of Limerick where she teaches Irish Music Studies, she teaches ear/notation classes also at Maoin Cheoil an Chair in Ennie, County Clare.
Niall Keegan is also a musician and academic and is Course Director of the new Traditional Irish Music Performance Masters at the Irish World Music Centre, University of Limerick, where he teaches also on the ethnomusicology programme.
The Scottish Ensemble is an internationally renowned group of string players. Led from the violin, the ensemble performs some 50 concerts throughout Scotland, the UK and abroad and has a busy recording and education programme.
