This could be the start of something big...
'Hugely impressive, music of weight, authority and no little beauty' The Herald
Leader and composer Phil Bancroft has been at the forefront of developments that have put the Scottish Jazz scene firmly on the map as one of the most innovative and exciting in Europe.
Phil has surrounded himself with the most charismatic and individual performers from today's European contemporary jazz scene to make a quartet that performs beautifully open melodic compositions with a joyfully instinctive group empathy, creative invention and instrumental virtuosity.
Phil will be joined on the tour by world class musicians guitarist Mike Walker, Thomas Strønen on Drums and Steve Watts on Acoustic Bass.
As one of Britain's most exciting musicians, guitarist Mike Walker plays regularly with big names like George Russell, Mike Gibbs and Julian Arguelles. Norwegian drummer Thomas Strønen plays with Iain Bellamy's Food and Bobo Stentson's current quartet, Parish. He is a highly compelling and unique performer with compete control and a highly individual style, influenced by American and European jazz, Norwegian Folk music and Japanese drumming traditions. Meanwhile, Steve Watts 'beautiful style of playing adds wonderfully to the overall sound' (Musician Magazine) to the extent that he is much in demand and has been a leading bassist on the English jazz scene for the last 15 years.
Don't worry if you don't recognise all the names we've name-checked - although if you do, you know you'll be in very good company. All you need to know is that once you've checked out some Tune Up gigs in the autumn, race to get tickets for Phil's spring outing.
