From lo-fi simplicity to an increasingly ambitious palette defined by achingly beautiful melodies, soaring string arrangements, and intricate waltztime rhythms…
The Delagados have been at heart of the contemporary Scottish pop renaissance. Through their renowned Chemikal Underground label, the group has not only built on its own recordings but has also launched the careers of Scottish bands such as Mogwai, Bis and Arab Strap.
Childhood friends Alun Woodward (vocals/guitar), Stewart Henderson (bass), and Paul Savage (drums) first collaborated as members of the group Bubblegum before defecting to form The Delgados and singer/guitarist Emma Pollock completed the lineup.
The band's singles and albums have received critical acclaim over the years and the band were even hailed as "the Best in Britain" by the BBC's John Peel. However, it has been their latest albums, The Great Eastern and Hate, both produced by Dave Fridmann, which have produced the band's biggest success and seen it come of age. Their fifth Album Universal Audio was released in September 2004.
From Perth, Scotland to Perth, Australia: after the Tune up tour the Delagados will fulfil a 10 year ambition to play on the other side of the world when they tour in Japan and Australia in February.
