Tune up: Salsa Celtica

Salsa Celtica got together in 1995 as part of Edinburgh and Glasgow's vibrant live music scene. After a couple of years of touring Scotland the group headed off to Cuba to study with the masters and after returning to Scotland in 1998 their unique mix of salsa and celtic folk musics has seen the 11 piece group go on to become one of the most exciting live groups on the World music festival circuit.

Whether kicking up a storm at the Womad festivals or headlining at New York's Lincoln centre in front of 5000 dancing New Yorkers the group has become firm favourites of Latinos and Celts alike the world over and have established a massive reputation for spectacular high energy performances. Salsa Celtica's albums "El Agua De La Vida" and 'The Great Scottish Latin Adventure' (Greentrax) have also caused something of a sensation throughout the salsa and world music scenes , topping salsa charts from New York to L.A., Puerto Rico to Dominica and reaching no 5 in the European world music charts. The great Scottish Latin adventure continues...

Unlike Japan's Orquestra de la Luz, which replicated the sound of a salsa band, Salsa Celtica boldly meshes to musical styles with exuberant results...oh-so-irresistable - Billboard
