Tune up: The Paragon Ensemble

One of Scotland's premier contemporary music ensembles and "purveyors of contemporary sounds to the aurally critical and visually demanding" (Herald), the Paragon Ensemble was founded in 1980. As well as showcasing new work by Scottish composers the ensemble has given international premieres of music by John Cage, Michael Daugherty, Iannis Xenakis and John Adams, amongst others, and broadcast on radio and television.

Under the leadership of artistic director John Harris and principal conductor Garry Walker since 2001, Paragon is widely regarded as a key player the North British contemporary music scene, both in performance and in new compositional developments.

The lively ensemble has an increasingly busy schedule of invitations and engagements at major halls and events, from the Edinburgh International Festival to a forthcoming visit to Moscow in collaboration with leading Russian contemporary composers. The 2004 the tour will bring classic minimalism - John Adams Shaker Loops and Gavin Bryars' Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet to audiences around Scotland, including venues in Skye & Strontian.
