The origins of Capercaillie can be traced to the small village of Taynuilt near Oban on the West Coast of Scotland where the band's founders - singer Karen Matheson, Marc Duff and accordionist Donald Shaw were brought up.
In the spring of 1983 they met up with what would become the rest of the band at a Festival on the Island of Mull. They had such a good time playing together that Capercaillie was formed.
From the earliest days, audiences recognised the band's raw creative energy. These were musicians who clearly loved their music: who took the Celtic tradition by the scruff of the neck and gave it a contemporary twist.
Capercaillie have played sell out tours across the world, recorded several successful albums and have written music for films, most notably Rob Roy. Joining Karen and Donald in the current high-profile line-up are Manus Lunny (bouzouki, guitar and vocals), master of the pipes, flutes and whistles Michael McGoldrick, bassist Ewan Vernal and percussionist and drummer David Robertson and Che Beresford.
