Biffy Clyro have reached a new level of popularity since the release of their second album 'The Vertigo of Bliss' in June and the success of summer single 'Questions and Answers'.
The band started out in the mid-1990s as Screwfish and "sounded like every other band who'd heard Nirvana," according to guitarist Simon Neil . But with a slight change of line-up and a developing interest in the underground American rock scene, bands like Far, The Red House Painters, Mineral and post-hardcore legends Fugazi began to inform their sound.
"As your tastes change" says Simon ".you realise that you can do crazy stuff and still make it sound excellent". Being inspired by other greats stood Biffy Clyro in good stead. After playing the unsigned stage at 2000's T In The Park festival, they were promptly signed to Beggars Banquet and released their debut single - and Kerrang! Single Of The Week - '27' in October 2000.
Their debut album 'Blackened Sky' was also one of the most critically-acclaimed underground albums of 2002. Following the release of second album 'The Vertigo of Bliss', the trio's 30 date UK tour saw sold out shows the length and breadth of Britain. Now. returning to home turf, Biffy Clyro bring the sounds of Scotland's thriving indie scene to venues around the country - supported by the Scottish Arts Council and bearing out its promise to embrace indie music and offer the best contemporary music to Scottish audiences.
