I was engaged as production manager on the the John Abercrombie/ Julian Arguelles tour (thick skinned productions). I enjoyed the tour very much and was extremely pleased to see John performing for & entertaining audiences in the UK again.

I went to four shows by Breabach and Le Vent du Nord on their recent Tune Up tour. Leaflets about the tour were given out at Celtic Connections, at the end of their first concert (great idea!) and the other shows I saw were well-attended. The shows themselves were great and the final show, in Peebles at the Eastgate Theatre, was absolutely superb. Thank you so much for supporing traditional music and, in particular, this collaboration between Scotland and Quebec. We hadn't seen Breabach before, but love Le Vent du Nord's music: to see the latter perform more than just at Celtic Connections was great and we have gained the music of Breabach as a result! So, thank you and we hope you will continue to support such great bands and bring them to a wider audience than may otherwise be the case.

    • Ryan Quigley Big Band

Touring now: Ryan Quigley Big Band with Justin Currie

Jazz trumpeter Ryan Quigley is joined by the cream of Scottish jazz talent and Del Amitri frontman Justin Currie as he takes his Big Band on the road for this very special Tune Up tour. Following a sell out concert at Glasgow International Jazz Festival's Homegrown Showcase in 2009, the Big Band is set to raise the bar with a show that will include several Del Amitri songs, as well as new material from Quigley's acclaimed debut album Laphroaig-ian Slip. The arrangements, written by Quigley, are tailored to suit Currie's delivery, pushing the singer in a jazzier direction without losing his own distinctive style. Highlights of last year's show included the Big Band's versions of standards such as 'All The Things You Are' and 'You Go To My Head', and, with Currie, a beautiful rendition of the Beach Boys' masterpiece 'God Only Knows'. As befitting a band featuring such talent as distinguished saxophonist Nigel Hitchcock, not to mention Quigley himself, expect some dazzling soloing. Quigley and Currie no doubt still have some surprises up their sleeves for this tour. Be sure to book your tickets early to avoid disappointment.

    • Treacherous Orchestra

      Touring now: Treacherous Orchestra

A turbo-charged 13-piece supergroup, Treacherous Orchestra are at the cutting edge of Scotland's ongoing folk revival, combining strong traditional roots with an eclectic range of contemporary influences. Featuring pipes, accordian, fiddles, whistles, flutes, electric guitar, banjo, bass, drums and percussion, Treacherous Orchestra's powerful rhythms draw upon modern rock, jazz and funk, as well as traditional marches and reels, while their inspired arrangements blend jazz, klezmer and rock flavours with Celtic elements. Like fusion pioneers Martyn Bennet, Shooglenifty and Wolfstone, Treacherous Orchestra take a progressive approach to Celtic music, their repertoire consisting almost entirely of original material. Who else would think of welding the stomping rock of Queens Of The Stone Age to a Scottish march, or filtering the jazz-fusion of Mahavishnu Orchestra through flightly Highland airs?
